Are you aged 18-24 and in receipt of Universal Credit? If so we can train you in all aspects of roundwood timber framing, and get you chainsaw qualified too. 24-32 hours a week- paid at the National Minimum Wage.
Tŷ Pren are a not for profit workers co-operative who provide sustainable eco buildings and frameworks using natural roundwood timber, for anyone who wants to build in a low impact way, from self builders and community groups to eco-tourism providers. We currently have a vacancy for a trainee timber framer.
The successful applicant will be trained in all aspects of timber framing. From design, engineering, tree felling, fabrication, and construction, including the use of all hand tools that we use to manufacture our bespoke timber frames. We work 32 hours per week during a four day week, with every Friday off.
Over a six month period the successful applicant will learn a new trade in increasing demand as the popularity of sustainable, natural, building techniques grows. There are substantial possibilities for ongoing employment opportunities beyond the six month period. Full training in Forestry First Aid will also be given.
A willingness to work hard and learn are vital for this role. The ideal candidate will possess good practical skills, a hands on attitude, and an aptitude for craft and carpentry. A good level of physical fitness is required for the role, as we do our own labouring on all stages of the project. Basic numeracy, the ability to work under direction, and as part of a team are also essential, as is attention to detail. An existing interest in natural building and sustainability is preferred but not essential.
